Apparently the author forgets XP does not support AES 256, an essential component for Skype/IE8 to work.
Would be nice if the muppets at MS could offer an alternative to hacking the XP system files that is now necessary to fix this.
Why is Skype dependent on IE8, anyway.

Hi! As far as I know, in most cases Skype will work without AES 256. Anyway, if it doesn’t, I found a way how to enable it even on Windows XP. If you’re interested in this, please read AES-256 for Windows XP and let me know if you find it useful.

we are unable to use Skype app & web on windows Xp sp3. and have IE8 updated add skype 7.36

The version of IE they use is simply bugged, it doesn’t work. Try Mypal instead. 🙂

It doesn’t work on windows XP service pack 2 :(. i kinda think it’s my Dell Latitude C640 tho.

Later that same year, the IE8 became as the default browser for Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7.
But the most important thing to note is the fact that IE8 is the latest version of Internet Explorer for Windows XP and for the proper operation of the operating system and various applications, on Windows XP must be installed Internet Explorer 8.
